The packing checklist provided on the camp Web site is great. We printed a copy out weeks in advance to make sure that I didn't forget to bring anything with me.

- Amanda,

a SPIRIT Camper

Each SPIRIT camp session begins on a Sunday. During the afternoon, campers meet with their advisor to select the sports that they want to play while at camp and to set up their schedule. Each camper must organize her individualized sports schedule within the offerings of the master schedule. Practices for the campers chosen sports start Monday morning.

Note: The master schedule is designed to minimize wasted time walking from field to field or up and down the campus hills. Therefore, sports played on the fields (at the bottom of our campus) are offered during one time block, and sports played at the top of our campus are offered during another time block. Keep in mind, varsity players can get additional workouts in the sport/position of their choice during our daily blocks of free time if they wish.

Sport-specific equipment requirements...

All campers must bring appropriate footwear, such as cleats, basketball sneakers, and running shoes for the sports that they are interested in playing. If a camper already owns sports equipment for particular sports, such as a tennis racquet, a softball glove, a lacrosse or field hockey stick, she should bring these items to camp with her. However, equipment necessary to participate in most sports, with the exception of golf (we have just a few sets) and in-line skating, will be provided to each camper on an as-needed basis. Also, varsity lacrosse players must bring their own eye guards (goggles) and mouth guards.

Specific information for those sports that have requirements are listed below.

Basketball

Although basketball sneakers are not required, they are strongly suggested. If you do not have a pair, please bring sneakers with support for lateral movement. Wearing running shoes while playing basketball increases the risk of a sprained ankle.

Field Hockey

Field Hockey players need a moldable mouth guard. We do have a limited number of shin guards, but because you are required to wear shin guards in order to participate in a scrimmage, we recommend bringing your own.

Golf

Varsity Golfers (grades 8 - 10) should bring their own clubs if possible. However, we do have some right handed clubs available for use. Please keep in mind that we do not play on a full-size golf course. Our instruction focuses on technique and when to use each club. A driver, odd number clubs, a wedge and a putter should suffice for practice sessions.

Note: We are no longer offering golf to freshmen (grades 2 - 5) and junior varsity (grades 6 and 7) players on a daily basis. Players in these age groups may choose golf instruction during our free time blocks in the afternoon. Girls are welcome to bring their own clubs or to use ours.

In-line Skating

In-line skates will not be issued by Spirit. Please bring your own along with a helmet. Socks that extend above the top of the skate are preferable. Wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads are optional.

Lacrosse

All lacrosse players need a moldable mouth guard.

Checking is not allowed in freshmen games (grades 2 - 5) and junior varsity games (grades 6 and 7). Therefore, these players are not required to wear goggles/eye guards.  However, we recommend bringing goggles/eye guards if you have them.

Varsity lacrosse players (grades 8 - 10) are required to have their own goggles, eye guards, and mouth guards. Gloves are optional.

Soccer

Soccer players need cleats and shin guards.

Softball

Softball players need a softball hat, mitt, and a pair of sweat pants.

Swimming

Swimmers should bring at least a couple of bathing suits and towels, a pair of goggles, and a cap if you want one.

Tennis

Although we have several tennis racquets on hand, players are encouraged to bring their own.

Track

Girls participating in track should bring good running shoes.

Volleyball

Those playing volleyball just need to be able to whack a ball and jump high... :)
