Smiles

Women who are active in sports and recreational activities as girls feel greater confidence in their physical and social selves than those who were sedentary as kids.

- Women's Sports Foundation

At SPIRIT, our days also include more traditional camp activities such as arts and crafts, campfires, talent shows, skits, cookouts, and more. Each day has a theme that gets carried through our practices and activities. Campers discuss the value of these personal development areas and how they affect the success of a team. We also discuss how these attributes can be used in everyday living -- in the dorms, in the dining hall, at home and at school.

Discussions, activities and staff skits address the following:

  • Confidence and Self Esteem

  • Cooperation and Teamwork

  • Responsibility and Pulling Your Own Weight

  • Leadership and Fairness

Activity periods (1:30 - 3 p.m. and 7 - 8:30 p.m.) are predetermined by the coaching staff. Sometimes a choice is given, sometimes the campers are divided into groups, and sometimes everyone participates in the same activity.

Advisor/Advisee Program

Campers at SPIRIT are put into groups according to age. Approximately six to eight campers are in each group. One coach/advisor works hand-in-hand with a group throughout their stay at SPIRIT. Campers issues are addressed daily, and their well-being and happiness is monitored closely by their advisor. This allows for a great deal of attention to be showered on the individual camper. Discussions, skits and personal development are part of these meetings.

Arts and Crafts

Our campers are often found creating arts and craft projects. Tye-dying tee shirts, building and painting wooden crafts, and working with beads are all part of the fun.

Camp Sisters

The SPIRIT program provides an opportunity for campers to interact with girls of different ages. Our older campers are matched with younger campers and an arena is set for them to participate in activities that span the ages.

Campfires

Night time gatherings around the campfire are a much anticipated event by all the campers.

Challenges (creative games and activities)

During afternoon or evening activity periods, we promote the qualities of a positive and healthy person while engaging in creative games, a group discussion or skit that addresses goal-setting, confidence, self esteem, cooperation, teamwork, responsibility, leadership and/or fairness. "Color wars", one of our most-loved activities, can happen any time day or night as girls assigned to groups creatively dress up and compete against each other wearing their team's colors.

Day Trips

The Monday of the second and fourth weeks of our program are camp trip days. Campers travel to an amusement park with a water slide.

Hiking

Whether you're doing it for enjoyment, exercise, or just to get to a practice field, EVERYBODY at SPIRIT hikes.

Rock wall climbing

At SPIRIT, we are able to use the indoor climbing wall to learn how to scale a cliff.

Varsity extra help sessions

During free time or activity periods, campers in grades 8 to 10 can receive extra help in any sport they choose. They may receive individual instruction addressing skills or tactics of their choosing, or they may participate in an endurance or strength-training session.

3 v 3 tournaments

All campers are welcome to participate in 3 v 3 tournaments in soccer, tennis, volleyball and/or basketball if they wish. Tournaments are usually held during free time.
